Washington Gas (Ashburn, Sterling & Eastern Loudoun)
Washington Gas is the regulated natural gas public utility for Ashburn (20147, 20148), Sterling (20164, 20165, 20166), Broadlands, Lansdowne, and the majority of Eastern Loudoun County.
Their regional operations and emergency response crews are dispatched out of the Dulles Operations Center. If you smell gas, they dispatch a first responder within 30 to 60 minutes free of charge to inspect the meter and verify life safety.
Columbia Gas of Virginia (Western Loudoun & Shenandoah)
In western sections of Loudoun County and parts of the Route 50 corridor extending toward Middleburg and Winchester, Columbia Gas of Virginia provides natural gas utility distribution. Virginia 811 (Call Before You Dig)
Virginia law requires anyone digging with mechanized equipment or digging deeper than 12 inches to notify Virginia 811 at least three business days prior to excavation. Utility technicians will mark buried public gas lines with high-visibility yellow spray paint and flags. Striking an underground gas line without a valid ticket carries heavy civil fines under Virginia Code § 56-265.14.
